New Quilt Donation Program for Starlight!!

Do you have quilts sitting around the house you want to go to a good cause? Creating a quilt that you want to donate to a sick child? Starlight has you covered!

What is Starlight?

Starlight delivers happiness to seriously ill kids and their families. Since 1982, Starlight’s programs have positively impacted 21 million seriously ill or injured children across the US. A hospitalized child is scared, confused, and often in hospital for a long period of time. Everything that makes being a kid is out of reach.

Innovative and inspiring programs like Starlight Virtual Reality, Starlight Hospital Wear, and Starlight Gaming bring the very best in technology, play, and other fun experiences to distract and entertain pediatric patients as they navigate the stress and pain that can come along with any illness.

Now, we are launching the Starlight Quilt program. Mail your finished quilts created in a smoke free and pet free environment to Starlight and they will match them with a kid that could use a good old fashioned quilt hug.

Smoke free and pet free environment?

Because your quilt is going to a child with a compromised immune system, we have to make sure there isn’t anything that could harm the child in the quilt. This means absolutely no smoke in any part of a home that the quilt is made in. Do you have pets? That doesn’t mean you can’t create a pet free environment to make your quilt! Here are some helpful tips:

Before Creating your quilt, close off your area so pets can’t enter when you aren’t around
Thoroughly clean your work area
Use a roller on your fabric to remove any hair or dander from fabrics and batting
Do NOT wash your fabric or batting unless you have already used a roller to remove everything. Studies show this could make the dander worse and embed it in the fabric.
Once your quilt is finished, place it in a bag that can be sealed to protect it until you are able to ship it. Here is an example: https://amzn.to/3Rn4kHe

What size do they want?

It is completely up to you!! Create small lap quilts, Queen Sized bed quilts or any size in between! Any quilt will help light up a sick child’s day.

You can also use any design or fabric you like. Please keep in mind these quilts are going to children and use appropriate fabric and designs that are child friendly. Always check your quilts carefully for pins and remove any embellishments such as buttons that could be easily swallowed before mailing your quilt.
